  1) What example is provided of why visual iconographies are so important? This is because genres are recognisable through the repeated use of generic codes and conventions ( audience recognises as shared characteristics of a genre). Codes and conventions come from iconographies (specific visual or aural media language choices). 2) What examples are provided of the importance of narrative in identifying genre?  For example ,in a soap opera it wouldn't be unusual to see one of the storylines follow a family having to deal with a domestic situation ( a family member having trouble with their boss at work).   1) WWW: Start well with a solid Q1.      EBI: Don't leave questions blank (Q3).              Focus on the question more in Q2 on social and cultural contexts. 2) Points I've missed out on for each question:     Q1: Excellent and judicious use of the theoretical framework (media language and narrative theory) to analyse how a poster uses narrative codes.     Q2 :Good Knowledge and understanding of the influences of social and cultural     Q3: understand and have good knowledge of the influences of genre on media audiences and industry and supported with examples. 3) Read this  exemplar response  from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording and also had an additional question 4 (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams).  Identify at least  one  potential point for questions 1-3 from this student's paper ...

  1) What does the term 'Cultural Industries' actually refer to? The term 'cultural industry' refers to the creation, production and distribution of products of a cultural or artistic nature. 2 ) What does Hesmondhalgh identify regarding the societies in which the cultural industries are highly profitable?  Hesmondhalgh identifies that the societies in which the cultural industries are highly profitable tend to be societies that support the conditions where large companies, and their political allies, make money.
