Blog feedback and Learner Response
Feedback:
WWW: Your blog is nearly 100% up-to-date – the two unfinished pieces (coloured amber on the tracker) just need to be put right for a fully green tracker. I like a lot of your answers on the blog so far – good reflections on your media consumption and an understanding of the main ideas we’ve covered in the opening weeks. I particularly like your plan to engage with Apple News – this will hopefully give you access to a range of news sources and magazines that will open up your media consumption and offer a variety of perspectives and media products. I’m delighted you want to apply to university and this course should develop your academic skills over the next two years in order to prepare you for that. It’s good to know that’s your aim from the beginning and a good grade in Media will certainly help you get a place at university next year.
EBI: Two areas to improve: firstly, complete the two unfinished pieces of work. Secondly, if you want to aim for a top grade we need to be adding depth and detail to your blog answers. The key to top-grade work is being able to discuss a variety of possible responses or ideas so try and develop extended paragraphs when relevant. If you look at your answers for the Reception theory factsheet they are pretty much all one sentence each. Sometimes a sentence or bullet point will do the job but generally you want to be writing more detailed answers that show your understanding of the material in real depth.
Reflect on your work in A Level Media so far. What is your strongest piece of work? I think my strongest piece of work is the semiotics task because I wrote detailed answers and explained my interpretation What is your weakest? My weakest piece of work is the reception theory task because I didn't include explanations of my interpretations and it was not as detailed as it should be. What specific skills or knowledge do you need to develop over the rest of the course? I need to include much more detailed answers in the future.
