Assessment 1: Learner response

 1) WWW: Start well with a solid Q1.

EBI: Don't leave questions blank (Q3).

Focus on the question more in Q2 on social and cultural contexts.

2) Points I've missed out on for each question:

Q1: Excellent and judicious use of the theoretical framework (media language and narrative theory) to analyse how a poster uses narrative codes.

Q2 :Good Knowledge and understanding of the influences of social and cultural

Q3: understand and have good knowledge of the influences of genre on media audiences and industry and supported with examples.

3) Read this exemplar response from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording and also had an additional question 4 (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams). Identify at least one potential point for questions 1-3 from this student's paper that you could have mentioned in your assessment.

Q1: "As believed by Barthes, enigma codes are key in engaging audiences as they would be more inclined to follow the narrative in an attempt to seek answers from this narrative."

Q2:"The use of a specific race establishes a sense of brand value and causes the audience to associate Nike with an urban/street lifestyle.

Q3:"This is because by using key aspects of genre that are proven to be enjoyed by audiences, it is more likely for their media texts to be more successful.

4) Did you get any media terminology or theory wrong in the assessment? Make a note of it here for future revision, including theories/terminology that you could have used but didn't.

As believed by Barthes, enigma codes are key in engaging audiences as they would be more inclined to follow the narrative in an attempt to seek answers from this narrative.

5) Identify your weakest question and write three bullet points that would improve on your original response. Use the mark scheme and exemplar paper to identify these points - particularly focusing on the anticipated content and the top level descriptors.

.Understand and have knowledge of key media concepts and theories.
.Use appropriate examples.
.Use specific media terminology throughout.
